Every two years during the third week of August, a 500-metre stretch of the Royal Military Canal in Hythe is transformed into an open-air theatre. The focal point is Wednesday's Grand Parade, a celebration of creativity and teamwork in a flotilla of decorated barges, tugged by hardy rowers. The week also features music from various bands and singers, with additional fringe events planned to bring together the canal and the longest high street in Kent.
